The unbelievable vastness of the galactic environment modeled when fused with game play infinitely customizable to the players taste could well make this game an instant classic.

8.7/10 - DW RotS made me feel in control of the lives and hopes of my civilization, I cared for them and could feel immersed in a huge galaxy interacting with other alien races. And that in my opinion is what 4X games are all about. That was one of the reasons I took so much time to review RotS, I was really enjoying playing :) And I will continue playing no doubt about that.

9/10 - Everything that didn't convince us in the almost perfect Distant Worlds has disappeared and there are a few improvements too.

8.5 - Distant Worlds: Return of the Shakturi is a worthwhile expansion to a solid 4X strategy game. Really, there is no reason why a dedicated DW fan should pass it up.
- Author: scifier - Reviewed: 3 APR 2011Overall this is the 4X game I've been waiting for. No measly 100 star systems, lots of room to expand. Still has some problems. At times the game seems to throw too much at you. There is a slow down function. Problem is it slows or speeds up the entire game. I wish the game would pause the universe while one engages in system combat. Instead of being able to enjoy a round of combat, the game hits me with messages of multiple pirate attacks, planet colonization, ect. I think the time interface in the Galaxy is in months, which means combat around a planet also takes months, which makes little sense. Another thing, the ships are almost all low on fuel when I need them. I wish you could automate the ships refueling. Real world warships load up on fuel whenever they can. I know you can automate the warships completely, but then they go off and do all kinds of silly things. The game still needs some work in my opinion to make if a great 4X experience.
